A few weeks ago, a video of a djent-metal band performing on the street in Times Square was posted online. It was the middle of the day and the crowd wasn’t particularly big, but in the end the clip went viral. Why? First, the song they covered was “Recreant” by Chelsea Grin — an uncommon choice for street performers. Second, the members themselves were 11 years old.
Digital interview magazine The Avant/Garde Diaries caught up with two members of Unlocking the Truth, Jarad Dawkins and Malcolm Brickhouse, to go deeper into the story of two young metal-heads who spend their days going to school, practicing in the basement, and plotting out imaginary tour schedules.
