At the time of my onboarding, I was jumping into an in-progress workstream — artifacts had already been developed regarding the basic functions of the app and a roadmap through 2026 was in nascent stages. My team’s task was to take a set of design principles and workstream categories and rapidly prototype an example user flow to dev-ready status.

We had an extremely short timeline of three weeks, so discovery began with brainstorming ideas against the principles and categories while reviewing call recordings and running product demos. Then, a series of screen audits led us to formulate options for user flows that would showcase both the predefined concepts and introduce a sustainable design methodology.

The current state of CrewPro is pragmatic, sometimes to a fault. The in-house PST team developed a UI that is complete on a technical level, empowering advanced users looking to achieve as much as possible on a given screen. To align more with the design principles, we decided to provide more focused flows that balanced between enabling core actions centrally without packing too much into any one view.

The user flow was further honed and wireframes were mapped onto each interaction. After early feedback from users and stakeholders, we secured another three weeks (for a total of six weeks) that allowed us to validate our work and iterate two more times.

At the end of our six weeks, the result was a user experience that refined and rebalanced the interactions between user and interface. In terms of our stated goal, we delivered a set of high fidelity mockups that accounted for all four design principles and three activity categories while following a more efficient design methodology. While more iterative cycles would progress this flow closer to development and delivery, the true value has been in educating the client on ways of working, providing baseline estimates for future project workstreams and upleveling our team’s familiarity with a complex environment.
